FInish Every Day

Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities
no doubt have crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.

Tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely
and with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with
your old nonsense.

This day is all that is
good and fair.
It is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on yesterdays.

Gosh, I could have used this poem weeks ago! I feel like I have screwed up so many things lately. No, I HAVE screwed up so many things lately. I'm dealing with the consequences of those screw-ups now. There's nothing I can do to go back in time and change things. No amount of praying or pleading or begging or day-dreaming will ever change the past I created for myself. I've just got to decide to pick myself up, dust myself off, and keep on going. Either that or I can wallow in the ditches. And, frankly, I don't particularly care for wallowing in ditches right now.
I thank you, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
